The Okanagan Valley is one of the premier wine producing regions in Canada, renowned for its excellent varietal wines. The area is home to a wide variety of wine grapes that are grown in the valley, each with its own unique characteristics. Here is a look at some of the most popular wine grapes grown in the Okanagan Valley.

Chardonnay: Chardonnay is a classic white wine grape that produces wines with complex aromas and flavours. Okanagan Chardonnay wines are known for their bright acidity, with notes of citrus, melon, and stone fruit.

Pinot Noir: Pinot Noir is a red wine grape that produces wines with an unmistakable bouquet of cherries, red berries, and herbs. The wines of the Okanagan Valley are full-bodied and balanced, with an elegant structure and supple tannins.

Cabernet Sauvignon: Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied red wine grape that produces wines with intense flavours of blackcurrant and cassis. Okanagan Cabernet Sauvignon wines are known for their robust tannins and complexity.

Merlot: Merlot is a popular red wine grape that produces wines with ripe fruit flavours and velvety tannins. Okanagan Merlot wines are renowned for their lush and creamy texture, with an abundance of ripe berry and plum flavours.

Syrah: Syrah is a bold and spicy red wine grape that produces wines with dark fruit flavours and intense pepper notes. Okanagan Syrah wines are known for their full body and complex structure, with a firm tannic backbone.

Riesling: Riesling is a classic white wine grape that produces wines with a distinct floral aroma and fresh acidity. Okanagan Riesling wines are known for their floral aromas and crisp acidity, with notes of citrus, stone fruit, and honey.

These are just a few of the many different types of wine grapes that are grown in the Okanagan Valley. Each grape has its own unique characteristics, and it’s worth exploring the region’s offerings to find the wine that best suits your taste.  Proudly British Columbia and Canadian wine!
