In the southern Coast Mountains, in the Howe Sound area, is Squamish, British Columbia. The Skwxwu7mesh (Squamish) Nation, whose traditional territory includes the region, are the native inhabitants of Squamish. The Squamish have lived in the area for a very long time and have a strong bond with the land and its resources. In addition, the region is home to Chief Mountain, a famous peak and a well-liked hiking and climbing location. The Squamish people have always held the mountain in high regard spiritually and have done so for centuries. The Squamish Nation aims to save and preserve the land for future generations while continuing to respect its ties to the land and its inhabitants.
